#291 Tremors Of fear

UPDATE: Bala's blog has been restored. Thank God!!

Lots of things are happening at TPH... First, lack of support from readers (apart from a few regulars) despite very good efforts in last two months. Then, obviously the frustration, resulting from the password protection of a new comic and a strong reaction by a so-called "regular" visitor, apparently his "first 30 lines comment" on the blog, counter-reaction by Sagnik, TPH and myself, Chandan's efforts to sort out the things....
On behalf of all bloggers, I just want to say, let's stop all this . We are here to serve you, to share our priceless collection for the people who do not have access to it. We are extremely happy that we are doing it for you. So, if you give us a little more support, feedback, appreciation, criticism, we will be more happy.
Please do not misunderstand us.

This comic had been contributed to the Comics Club(formerly known as Mumbai Comics Club) by Shrinivas. Balaji has given the link. Fantastic, action-packed story.
Enjoy

Dear ICC,

Thanks. Great Comic. Have read so long ago.
----------------------------
Let me just say this: I am a teacher. Somtimes I have to give lectures in power point. So I used to scan pictures from textbooks. Just a few pages. Even that too was tiring. You guys are scanning every page. I guess you may have to remove the binding if necessary to do this. Just so that we comic lovers can share your joy.
You guys are doing this week after week. What a great job!
I actually feel frustrated that I cannot thank you all in another medium.
If only somebody I just get to shake your hand. I would feel so much better.
Kudo to all bloggers. Kudos to Vineeeth, Ajay and all other pioneers of comic scanning.

One question: Can you tell me some history of the Mumbai comics club? Does it still exist?

Hi guys,
I just stumbled on this today and boy.... this brings ALL my childhood memories rushing back.

However, I wanted to write in to bring your attention to DJVU - an open source document format, heavily optimized and targeted for
scanned images, especially those containing text and line drawings
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DjVu).

It is also going to be used in the OLPC Laptop project as an ebook-with-images format. Do you think you would want to take a look at that?
Just FYI - http://any2djvu.djvuzone.org/ can be used to try it out online (it will even pull images of a publicly accessible directory to create a djvu file)

I have been visiting your blog for the last 3 months and have been reading most of the comics, especially Phantom comics, I have noticed the revival in your blog in the last few weeks and it is no doubt that you people are working hard for it, you are spending time and energy, all to share something which is priceless and enjoyable to you all and to me as well.

Please, please do not get frustrated for the reactions of visitor, there are bound to be different reactions.

From your post today, I understand that you people are people with determination and understanding of what you are doing.

No matter what, I really appreciate what you people have been doing so far, and I do hope that you people will keep on to this work.

I am really happy that you people are here to do this, best of luck and will be in touch.

Dear ICC,

I was about to write to about the DjVu format too. Glad Sandeep wrote about it. It is fantastic. I have 150 page (A3 size) book. If we scan it by conventional means it will probably be 80/90 Mb.
By djVu scanning it is only 7.5 Mb!

So In case you adopt it for comics the . cbr would be about 1.5 Mb with no loss in resolution. So even modem users could use it.
My student tell me that in this format pixels are not used for picture representaion by math equations. Hence the reduction in size. Anyway I dknt know anymore about this.

Just one additional thing about DJVU - there are several browser plugins (also for Linux). So you dont have to run some software to go through the comics..

FYI

Thanks for posting the scans. I think we all started blogging for sharing the fun had when the comic scans were found that were not available anymore, especially me I could not help thinking about creating a Mandrake Blog for showing off my collection I have with me. I used to visit TCP very often and still do and started commenting before reading the Indrajals. That was fun... Let's keep sharing the scans and enjoy reading these classics.

Oh damn! It looks like some idiot has flagged or complained against that blog. I don't know why idiots do that - spoiling everyone's fun. Perhaps, he could email the help at Google and ask them, coz blogspot is offered by google. I don't think any copyright person is involved in this, it's got to be some random fool.

Wow. Thanks so much for doing this!!! I grew up on all these comics as I am sure other people visiting this site have. I had tons of Phantom, Mandrake and even Aditya (a short lived character) but somehow during our house movings, the comic books went all missing. I have been searching them ever since....

Will be back to the site to go through the scanned posts.

Omigosh...Bala's site got deleted? Could google be censoring sites that post comics?

@All, I am back....very soon isn't it? It was a scary experience, glad google support was able to recover my blog in great timing. So, this could happen to anyone, anytime, have to think of a backup strategy... Any ideas?

Bala: What about some offline browser to download entire blog site. Fortnightly/Monthly backup will suffice. Offline explorer i like the best.

ICC/Sagnik/Any one who can help:
Was #S125 'Phantom Head Peak' ever published by Indrajal? If yes, what is the vol. no.?

thanks.

Indrajal Comics Club said...

no, it was never published by indrajal

HojO said...

Hi TPH/Chandu,
I think u guys may b confused by the 'code' provided by deepwoods..

The S125 ('Phantom Head Peak')was very much published in IJC as Journey to Emarland Island PART-I and S126 and edited S127 published in Part-II
Though deepwood mention it as ONLY S126 !!

Indrajal Comics Club said...
